About

A layout system that grew into a marathon platform

Speedthon is made by FURiOUS for the Brazilian speedrun community and for anyone who runs a marathon.

How it started

Brazilian marathons such as Speedruns Brasil and Brazilians Against Time needed an overlay that volunteers could keep current during a run: the game, the runners, the timer, what comes next. The first Speedthon did that. It was a set of PHP layouts driven from a control page, and it ran those events for years.

Why a new version

Every event wanted something a little different, and each change meant editing layout files by hand. Around the stream, signups lived in forms, the schedule in a spreadsheet, shifts in a Discord thread and donations somewhere else.

This version keeps what worked, the panels for runners, timer and game that update live and the scenes picked by the number of runners, and fixes the rest. Layouts are built in an editor with full control over their code, and the work around the stream lives on the same site, with the same accounts and the same data.

What guides it

Freedom over presets

Base layouts are a starting point. Any source can be rewritten in HTML, CSS and JS.

One place

Signups, review, schedule, live control and donations share their data, so nothing is copied by hand between tools.

Built for volunteers

Marathons run on volunteers. Each role sees what it needs, and the dashboard holds up when two operators press buttons at once.

Safe on stream

Custom code runs isolated, so a typo in one source can't take the overlay down.

Who makes it

FURiOUS created Speedthon, wrote the first version for those Brazilian marathons and builds this one. You can find them at furious.pro.
